when will there be a new image available, the 202409 image seems rather dated. are there already plans for it ?
hi, You need to upgrade starfive_debian2409 to debian13.
In fact, i try, but no idea on how to doing
As apt update fails and therefore i assu.e apt upgrade-dist will subsequently fail
hi, Asterix.
There are three ways to upgrade:
1、After upgrading, GPU and VPU do not work. Just modify the apt source.
2、After upgrading, GPU do not work。
3、After upgrading, GPU and VPU do work.
2、3 Please refer here Debian-13_test for VF2 image (Including GPU and VPU driver)
I join @Asterix 's request, I wanted to know if the riscv team plans any releases and when. @Michael.Zhu can you tell us something? thanks as always.
@lzzhzh I saw the post on the Chinese section of the forum and I am pleased to note that you have made some images to download and the debian13 test is in progress, I will download the latest 20250320 Image.
can i ask if these are images for microsd card or for emmc or ssd? i think microsd only.
thanks for sharing your efforts with us
- After a brief test, it has been confirmed that this version 4 image (20250320) can be installed on a VF2 NVME solid state drive. It cannot be directly burned to NVME to boot up. The correct method is as follows:
sorry, My English is not very good, so I used machine translation.
Additional reminder: 20250320 image, Testing on nvme. I only conducted a short-term test.
Thanks for your reply, if I can in the next few I want to try to play with your image and install it on my nvme ssd.
So I can provide the English community of the forum my impressions.
Are the apt repositories frozen to avoid updating and doing damage like in the official distro?
apt repositories ,It can be used. Freeze because there are two APT sources, Chinese and foreign, You choose what suits you.
Most software in apt repositories can be installed and upgraded,A small number of software packages cannot be upgraded or destroyed.
-
Firefox 119 is the key to hardware decoding of streaming media. cannot destroy it,You can install Firefox Esr and Chromium separately.
-
VLC3.0.18 is the key to hardware decoding of local video files, cannot destroy it.
-
GPU drivers and related software, cannot destroy it.I provide a screenshot, and the software that has not been upgraded cannot be upgraded.

Caution should be exercised when apt upgrading , It is recommended to use timeshift for system backup before upgrading.https://forum.rvspace.org/uploads/default/original/2X/a/a7f515cbe4856c193c68c371494e1c46bd94081c.png
VF2 can be used without GPU driver, Do not use gnome, Recommend using Sway or Labwc, They can run smoothly without GPU drivers. I have been using Sway and Labwc for at least 1 year without GPU driver in VF2.
Thanks for providing this image (vf2-debian13-20250320.img.xz).
I have uploaded it to Mega.
I tested playing a 1080p h264 video file with Firefox, and it looks like it does use the VPU (hardware video decoding). I wasn’t able to install the extension enhanced-h264ify, so I wasn’t able to test it with YouTube.
I activated the apt source in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian.sources but sudo apt upgrade removed the hardware acceleration.
I’m going to continue testing.
