Is there a minimum Debian version available for the VisionFive 2 board other than the one provided in this download link[Microsoft OneDrive] ?
Debian will have no official RISC-V suport until Trixie is released. So no.
Thanks @mzs . Is there a minimal any Debian image available within 1-2GB in size or lesser, as the latest version is 4.2GB?
@mzs whether or Debian have official support is irrelevant.
There are engineering releases with a desktop so there is absolutely no reason why they can not release a minimum server “engineering release”.
It would be nice to see all future “engineering” releases for the vision five 2 also include a minimum server version. This should only be around 300MB-400MB in size.
@karthick the only small Debian image I been able to find is from DietPi. It seems to work well.
Time and resources are a reason. Someone has to be made available to do the work, resources taken from other projects to build, test and release it etc…
I agree, but realistically this is not going to happen. See above.
When minimum Debian was mentioned, I assumed Official Debian and not a smaller unofficial Debian image file - Mea Culpa.
A smaller image file could be created by making your own starting with a sdcard.img from one of the older visionfive2 releases on github and then making it debian with Debootstrap. But there is a risk of disabling everything to do with the GPU and VPU, so probably only useful for headless.
You can try Armbian for Vision Five 2 , Minimal/IOT images, Build Date: Aug 29, 2024, Based on Ubuntu。https://www.armbian.com/visionfive2/
It’s also very small,I’m trying it out。
