I see a New Release is out for the firmware

This was good to see, but no new StarFive Debian release has appeared, unlike previous SDK releases.

I have upgraded to this kernel on the 202409 StarFive release, it was not too painful. I already had the kernel repo cloned, so I pulled the JH7110_VisionFive2_6.12.y_devel branch, and built the 6.12.5 kernel following the usual instructions in the release notes: VisionFive 2 Debian Wiki - 202409 Release | RVspace

I also upgraded spl & u-boot in flash to the 5.14.0 SDK release following the usual flashcp method.

This boots and runs just fine, it’s still locked to the never updated debian snapshot and starfive repos. So there is little point in doing this unless you want to have the latest kernel and like playing with builds etc…

It would be nice if StarFive could do a new VF2 debian release to complement this; bringing in the changes they have been rolling out for other boards, but I’m not holding my breath…

hi, easytarget.
Can you share the compiled 6.12.5 kernel? I would like to try, Upload to websites within China that can be downloaded, for example https://wetransfer.com/
I am not very familiar with what is included in the 6.12.5 kernel.
Thank you!

hi , easytarget, You can skip sharing the version 6.12.5 you compiled.
There are rumors, Starfive is making debian25xx, So we can wait for it together.

Hi @lzzhzh , I too hope that we are going to get something new from StarFive. I saw (as noted in another thread) that the debian.starfive portal is giving a gateway error, hopefully a prelude to a new portal rollout. (or just an error… time will tell).

Ideally we get a combined distro for /all/ the JH7110 boards out there (the VF2 being the first and best of course… but there are a lot of ‘followers’ now too :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: ). It might make sense from StarFives perspective to do this since maintaining seperate builds/distros per platform is hard, innefficient.

In the meantime, if you still want to play with my 6.12.x kernel builds just PM me and I can drop them on my site (which isn’t blocked in CH afik)

thank you very much, easytarget,If needed, I will contact you. Perhaps StarFive will have new content,We are looking forward to…
If debian25xx is not debian13, I will also find a way to upgrade it to debian13. I have already upgraded debian2409 to debian13 (retaining GPU VPU driver) before, And shared it on the forum.
