I’ve been trying to get h264 hardware encoding working on my VF2 (using the 202409 Debian image). H265/HEVC works fine using ffmpeg and hevc_omx as the encoder, but ffmpeg throws an error when I use the h264_omx encoder, despite it being listed as an encoder by ffmpeg. The exact error is: [h264_omx @ 0x2abc92b610] No component for role video_encoder.avc found
I have read posts saying that the SOC doesn’t support h264 hardware encoding - is this correct?
If it IS supported, can anyone point me in the direction of a command line option/converter than can use it?
(I’ve also tried Fedora, but it doesn’t include the omx stuff anyway…)
Have you updated your debian2409? I remember that debian2409 had 1-2 hardware decoding related software driver updates since its release in September last year. Updated in StarFive Library.
Also, have you tested with debian2409pro? Debian2409pro is an upgrade from debian2409 to debian13 (retaining the normal operation of GPU VPU driver), and ffmpeg should be updated to the updated version.
I confirm that VF2 video hardware decoding uses VPU, local video hardware decoding requires the original VLC version, and streaming media hardware decoding requires the original Firefox 119. Starfive seems to have not disclosed in detail the method for setting up VPU.
