Followup: This is what I got.
In short, the crypto manager test fails miserably, and this was with gcc, thus not clang-specific.
Confirming that cryptography support really is broken in this kernel. And as no modules are listed as loaded above (although perhaps the list corrupted?), this must be happening very early.
I’ll investigate a little more.
